What is attachment based therapy?

John Bowlby is cited as the founder of attachment theory. Through his work in studying infant-parent dynamics he was able to understand the impact of the child’s relationship with their primary caregivers on their emotional and social development throughout the lifespan.

This work was then expanded upon through observing how infants responded to a stressful situation, know as the ‘strange situation’ which later created the foundation for distinguishing attachment styles.

Attachment therapy focuses on examining how relationship patterns you developed within childhood are impacting your current relationships in the present. Attachment based therapy helps individuals and couples identify their relationship triggers, identifying the root of these issues and working on tools to develop healthier relationship responses and move towards secure attachment.
